Lot 75. Atomic Bombing of Nagasaki. Fred Bock. (1918-2000). WWII pilot who took part in the atomic bombing of Nagasaki in 1945, flying the B-29 bomber The Great Artiste, which was used for scientific measurements of the effects caused by the nuclear weapon. The bomber which actually dropped Fat Man was called Bockscar as it was usually flown by Frederick Bock.
10x8 black and white photo signed in black ink, "Fred Bock, Airplane Commander Crew C-13, 393rd Bomb Sqdn, 509th Composite Gp." Also signed by Bock’s co-pilot Lieutenant Hugh C. Ferguson (1921-2009).
