William Benedict (1917-1999). American comedian and character actor. He made his film debut in Fox's $10 Raise (1935) and went onto the Fox payroll as a ""featured player."" After leaving Fox, he played some of his larger parts in serials and in the Bowery Boys features as Whitey in which he was a regular. Benedict played a world-weary croupier in The Sting (1973), and in the regular role of Toby the Informant on the 1975 TV series The Blue Knight.
