Lot 69. Clare Booth Luce. (1903-1987). Playwright, editor, and American ambassador. She was managing editor of *Vanity Fair during from 1930 to 1934. Some of her satirical articles for *Vanity Fair were collected in *Stuffed Shirts (1931). She wrote the Margin for Error (1939), an anti-Nazi play which was adapted into a movie. She was elected to the U. S. House of Representatives and served from 1943 to 1947. In 1953 President Dwight D. Eisenhower appointed her ambassador to Italy.
