Lot 55. Jimmy Carter. (Born 1924). Thirty-ninth president. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Prior to becoming president, Carter served two terms in the Georgia Senate, and was the 76th Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975. Because he had served as a submariner (the only President to have done so), a submarine was named for him in 1998, making *USS Jimmy Carter one of the very few U. S. Navy vessels to be named for a person still alive at the time of the naming. After the publication of his *Palestine Peace Not Apartheid (2007), some have accused him of anti-Israeli bias and of making significant factual errors, omissions and misstatements in the book.
