Lot 4. Jacinto Benavente. (1966-1954). One of the foremost Spanish dramatists of the 20th century. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1922. Benavente showed a preoccupation with aesthetics and later with ethics. A liberal monarchist and a critic of Socialism, he was a reluctant supporter of the Franco regime as the only viable alternative to what he considered the disastrous republican experiment of 1931?1936. He died at the age of 87. He never married. According to many sources, he was homosexual.

Autograph quotation signed in Spanish on 7x5.5 album sheet. English translation reads "A true love is not the one that forgives many defects but the one that does not see them." Faint pencil notation at lower margin states this beautiful quotation was signed in 1922 at a theater in Buenos Aires.

In very good condition. Light age toning.
