T. Barnum (1810-1891). American showman famous for stretching the public’s imagination and testing its gullibility. He opened Barnum's American Museum in New York City in 1841 and loaded it with everything from bearded ladies and woolly horses to mermaids and dwarfs. In 1850, Barnum brought Jenny Lind to the U. S., and in 1881 formed the great Barnum and Bailey Circus. Believing that "there’s a sucker born every minute," Barnum’s genius earned him a fortune and provided entertainment for millions of people.
