Lot 4. P. T. Barnum (1810-1891). American showman famous for stretching the public’s imagination and testing its gullibility. He opened Barnum's American Museum in New York City in 1841 and loaded it with everything from bearded ladies and woolly horses to mermaids and dwarfs. In 1850, Barnum brought Jenny Lind to the U. S., and in 1881 formed the great Barnum and Bailey Circus. Believing that "there’s a sucker born every minute," Barnum’s genius earned him a fortune and provided entertainment for millions of people.

5x7.5 ALS. In full, "Museum Friday, Mr. Eldrige, Lizzie has been to Connecticut and is now visiting her friend in 30th St where she proposes remaining till Monday morning when she goes to Dr Simms. Please send by bearer any letters you may have for fer. She will call on you tomorrow. Truly yours P. T. Barnum."
