Lot 128. Barack Obama. (Born 1961). American president. Former Junior U. S. Senator from Illinois. Obama delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. In November 2004, he was elected to the United States Senate as a Democrat by a landslide in a presidential election year marked by Republican gains. He is the 44th president of the United States and the country’s first African-American president.

Signed book: The Rise of Barack Obama. Photographs and text by Pete Souza. Hard cover, 9x11, jacket with $27.95. Illustrated. Chicago: Triumph Books, 2008. 160 pages. Presumed first edition. Signed and inscribed in white marker on front free endpaper, "To Blake Scheel. The children are our future. Barack Obama."

Peter Souza worked for the Chicago Tribune until 2008. His job at the Chicago Tribune was to follow the freshman senator and take candid photos of the senator in his new job, with his family, talking to people, his trip to Moscow, etc. The photos are magnificent. Unfortunately, few copies of the book were sold and I believe this might be the only book signed and inscribed by Obama, and what an inscription! A search on the internet could find no other signed copies. In very good condition with jacket slightly creased at top of spine.
